The Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) Program, administered by the Geologic Resources Division, provides each of 270 identified natural area National Park System units with a geologic scoping meeting, a scoping summary, a digital geologic map, and a geologic resources inventory report. Geologic scoping meetings generate an evaluation of the adequacy of existing geologic maps for resource management, provide an opportunity to discuss park-specific geologic management issues and, if possible, include a site visit with local experts.
