Historic Scotland has outlined its Climate Change Action Plan for 2012-2017. The document describes the five-year plan for addressing the challenges and opportunities that climate change presents to the historic environment. This includes Historic Scotland's role in supporting the historic environment through a period of adaptation in the transition towards a low-carbon economy. The document identifies the seven strategic themes that will direct the organization's work in this area, to be applied through forty-two specific actions. The document is a complement to the Carbon Management Plan (2011). It also articulates wider intentions to increase resilience and help prepare the broader historic environment for future climate changes. On behalf of Scottish Ministers, Historic Scotland undertakes statutory functions to protect and promote the historic environment. It aims to act as leader and enabler to ensure that the historic environment sector delivers economic, social, cultural, and environmental benefits for the whole of Scotland. Its belief is that the historic environment has a significant role to play in addressing climate change and contributing to a low carbon future.
