The distribution and abundance of river otter were studied from 1985 to 1987 in Voyageurs National Park in response to concerns over man-caused water fluctuations in the park's major reservoirs. Thirty-nine otter were live-trapped and 19 were radio-monitored for home range size and population estimation. The population was estimated at 1 otter per 3.6 km of shoreline with a productivity of 2.6 young per female. Home range varied from 0.64 km2 to 29.13 km2 for a yearling female and adult male respectively.
