TextureCam Final Report

We demonstrated an “intelligent camera” for automatic geologic feature recognition, as a precursor to later use onboard intelligent robotic space missions. We developed methods for automated analysis of geologic surfaces, and implemented these techniques in a flight-relevant FPGA-based camera prototype. We then demonstrated it at relevant analogue sites in the Mojave Desert, CA, achieving the intended factor-of-two improvements in automatic data collection efficiency.
