Mapping George Washington Carver National Monument and Surrounding Area

Scherlinck KJ and Gouzie D. Mapping George Washington Carver National Monument and Surrounding Area. Research Permit and Reporting System

The purpose of this project was to create 1:24000 geologic maps for the George Washington Carver National Monument and surrounding area. The area mapped consisted of three 2.5 minute quads – one containing GW Carver National Monument and one on each side of the monument property. The two geologic units found in this location are the Burlington-Keokuk Undifferentiated and the Warsaw formations. These units are Mississippian in age and they represent the Osagean - Meremecian stage boundary.
