Black oak (Quercus kelloggii) epicormic shoot growth was measured as an indicator of restoration efforts following forest thinning, aimed to improve growth, reduce fuels, and restore historic forest conditions. Epicormic shoots were found in a significantly greater proportion in the treated area than in the control area, with no significant difference between mean height in the two populations. Epicormic growth in the treated area could indicate improved forest conditions following thinning.
