This study was the first to investigate if Dinophysis occurs in Sinepuxent Bay. Dinophysis was detected at the Assateague site as well as two other sites in Sinepuxent Bay. Counts were well below the bloom threshold of concern (10 cells/ml). Weather conditions during the Spring of 2014 were not generally conducive to blooms of Dinophysis. It is recommended that the Park prohibit the collection of mussels as a preventative measure that will also benefit the ecology of bayside marshes.
