A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). The 2008 field season started late in all of our parks due to considerable delays at the Regional level in advertising for our lead fire effects and seasonal positions. These delays postponed our start date to June 16th, two months later than normal. To help mitigate the effects of these delays, the Grand Canyon Fire Ecology Program sent three of their employees to complete critical postburn fieldwork in Bandelier’s Project Area (PA) 9. All other fieldwork scheduled for the months of April, May, and the beginning of June was either canceled or completed later in the season. Many thanks to the Grand Canyon Fire Ecology Program!
