This report examines stored sediments and sediment transport in Redwood Creek, where total sediment was greatly increased by a large flood in December 1964. While the channel is slowly recovering from effects of the flood, the Abstract indicates that total recovery "will take more than a century". Sediment can be stored in various forms and stable sediment deposits can last for many centuries. The paper considers effects of channel-stored sediment on bedload transport, depths of scour and fill, breakdown of bed material, residence times, and distribution and quantity of stored sediment (more sediment where the valley is wider and the channel gradient less steep). Among the illustrations are black-and-white photographs of flood effects, channel profiles, logarithmic plots of sediment data, a table of data on stored sediment and other aspects of 39 Redwood Creek study reaches.
