A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). New crew lead Chris Kopek (former Fire Effects lead for the Heartland Inventory and Monitoring Network) and new crew member Andy Forget performed a wide variety tasks throughout the 2013 field season including monitoring activities at Dinosaur National Monument (DINO) and host unit Rocky Mountain National Park (ROMO), wildland fire response both in and out of park, search and rescue efforts at ROMO, and ended the field season conducting stabilization and rehabilitation efforts associated with the record-breaking flood along the Front Range in September. The 2013 fire season got off to an early start for the crew with the Big Meadows fire which started on June 10, just 2 weeks following the completion of pre-season training. Chris and Andy spiked out on Big Meadows as Fire Effects Monitor (FEMO) and FEMO trainee respectively. Nate Williamson continued working as a Long-Term Fire Analyst (LTAN) mentee on Rocky Mountain Area IMT2 Team A during the 2013 fire season (5 incidents), provided fire behavior analysis on his home unit, and resumed his commitment to the Wildland Fire Management Research, Development & Application (WFM RDA) Fire Behavior Specialist call-when-needed list.
