A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). The Glacier Fire Effects Crew started the 2005 field season by re-measuring six Long Term Monitoring plots in the Moose Fire (2001). The crew traveled to Big Hole National Battlefield for one week and completed re-reads of six FMH brush plots in the Sagebrush/Grassland monitoring type.In addition, the crew repeated six photo point plots following mechanical treatment last summer at park headquarters and collected fuel moisture samples bimonthly throughout the season starting in May. We continued to monitor exotic weeds in the North Fork Grasslands monitoring unit in the Big Prairie burn units in the park’s North Fork area this summer. This project was first started in 2002 to monitor Butter-and-Eggs (Linaria vulgaris) after it was noted that the thirteen FMH plots failed to capture its presence. Eleven Daubenmire transects were installed this summer and nine transects were re-read. Several small patches of Sulphur Cinquefoil (Potentilla recta) were discovered in one of the burn units. Four additional transects were installed to track this exotic species.
