TERRESTRIAL RESOURCE SUBSIDIES TO AQUATIC FOOD WEBS IN ALPINE AND SUBALPINE LAKES

TERRESTRIAL RESOURCE SUBSIDIES TO AQUATIC FOOD WEBS IN ALPINE AND SUBALPINE LAKES. Research Permit and Reporting System

This research explores the role of terrestrial carbon in aquatic ecosystems by illustrating the extent to which terrestrial organic matter subsidizes higher trophic levels in lakes. It uses the natural abundance of carbon (δ13C and ∆14C), nitrogen (δ15N), and hydrogen (δ2H) isotopes to determine terrestrial contributions to aquatic food webs.
