A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). This year all crewmembers returned for the monitoring season, and therefore efficiency of operations was increased. The fire effects crew had a busy operational season, working on 45 prescribed fires at 6 parks, several wildfires, and detailing to the SER Fuels helicopter. The monitoring workload continued to increase, and the crew successfully rose to the challenge, completing 52 postreads. Perhaps the biggest challenge was the conversion from FEAT to FFI. Much time was spent figuring out the new program, learning what (from FEAT) means what in FFI. The crew and fire ecologist attended FFI training in Asheville, and continue to learn about the new program from each other, the Google Group page, web trainings, and help from other crews/ecologists.
