Drake C and Kopper K. North Pacific/Columbia Basin, Fire Ecology Annual Report: Calendar Year 2011

A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). The North Pacific / Columbia Basin (NPCB) Fire Effects Monitoring crew had an exciting and productive field season in 2011 completing a total of seventy-nine plot reads within North Cascades National Park (NOCA), John Day Fossil Beds National Monument (JODA), San Juan Island National Historical Park (SAJH), and Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area (LARO). The crew began the field season by installing and reading six new FMH forest plots at LARO; three of which were installed in a new monitoring type, Ponderosa Pine/Bitterbrush, which represents the driest and most southern burn unit at Lake Roosevelt. Two post-burn reads were also completed in the Kettle Falls Admin unit further to the north.
