A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). The North Pacific/ Columbia Basin (NPCB) fire ecology program had a varied and productive year. The fire effects monitoring crew completed a total of forty-three plot reads within North Cascades National Park (NOCA), John Day Fossil Beds National Monument (JODA), San Juan Island National Historic Park (SAJH) and Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area (LARO), and worked on several other assignments. The fire ecologist participated in planning efforts, completed the majority of data processing of fire history research samples, and helped to conduct the 17-year Stehekin Fire and Fuels Peer Review. The crew began the field season in LARO by completing seven immediate post-burn, and first year post-burn reads from late season pile burns in 2011. They installed and read three new FMH forest plots in the new Gifford Ferry burn unit. They also assisted for numerous days in prescribed burning operations in the Enterprise unit.
