Spatial and Temporal Patterns of Epipsammic Diatoms in the Lake Superior Wave Zone. Research Permit and Reporting System
The productivity, biomass and community composition of the epipsammic diatom flora were assessed at three sites in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore from May – November, 2014. A total of 55 unique diatom species from 28 genera were identified at the mouth of the Hurricane River. Fifty-one species from 24 genera were identified in the wave zone adjacent to the Hurricane River mouth and 51 species from 27 genera were identified at the sampling location on Twelvemile Beach.
