A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). The Mountains to the Sea fire effects monitoring crew had a busy 2014. The crew monitored at seven NPS units throughout the Northeast and National Capitol Region, including Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, Saratoga National Historical Park, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, Richmond National Battlefield Park, Catoctin Mountain Park (NCR), Gettysburg National Military Park, and Shenandoah National Park. A total of 91 plots were inventoried, including 19 forest FMH plots, 16 brush FMH plots, 24 Inventory and Monitoring brush transects, 8 rapid assessment plots and 24 CBI plots (Table 1a). Fire Ecology staff supported numerous prescribed fires throughout the spring and summer. Notable projects included a 500 acre forested unit at Shenandoah National Park and the first ever prescribed fire at Gettysburg National Military Park. Personnel served as FEMO’s, FFT2’s and FIRB.
