A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). 2006 was a very successful year for the Ozark Highlands fire effects cluster. All fire effects plot installations and rereads were completed by the end of the field season even with the crew pared down mid to late summer due to the busy fire season. FRCC was implemented at Ozark NSR, Buffalo NR, and Pea Ridge NMP while CBI plots were conducted at two burn units at Ozark NSR and an adjacent Mark Twain NF unit. The first prescribed burn at Hot Springs NP was conducted in over twenty years and our crew was able to document the positive fire effects from it. In addition six more plots were established within the oak-hickory forest and post oak-blackjack oak woodland monitoring types at Pea Ridge NMP which will allow a greater depth to analysis. A poster was produced documenting the fire effects of the first prescribed burn within the Lower Wilderness at Buffalo NR and displayed at the Midwest fire management meeting.
