Dynamics of Groundwater and Surface Water Related to the Mangrove/Marsh Ecotone

Final report. Water is the lifeblood of the Everglades. Like the blood that courses through our own veins, water nourishes south Florida's ecosystems through the transport of nutrients and organic matter. This happens both at the surface as water moves across the landscape, and underground as water makes its way through our subterranean aquifer. Understanding how water moves through the landscape, and how such movements might change with differing management practices, is critical to successful restoration. This two-year CESI investigation quantifies the hydrologic properties that govern the flow of groundwater and surface water, thereby allowing for the modeling of these movements both above and below ground.
