A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). Saguaro National Park had two wildfires in 2010: one human-caused and one lightning-caused. An abandoned campfire at the Mica View picnic area burned 0.1 acre in Sonoran desertscrub. Lightning ignited a fire near Helen’s Dome, which grew to 1.7 acres in ponderosa pine and oak before being extinguished by monsoon rains. The park carried out one prescribed fire, the Mica Rx, in late June. Prior to ignition an informal Mexican spotted owl survey was conducted in the Italian Springs PAC. No owls were detected.
