A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). The Central and Southern California Fire Ecology and Fire Effects Monitoring program had another productive year during FY09. Fire effects monitoring was completed at Point Reyes (PORE), Golden Gate (GOGA), Pinnacles (PINN), Santa Monica (SAMO), Channel Islands (CHIS), Whiskeytown (WHIS) & Crater Lake (CRLA). Fire ecology and fire effects staff assisted with prescribed burns at PINN and East Bay Regional Parks. The San Francisco Bay Area Network (SFBAN) fire ecologist was active with outreach, research collaboration and assisting with the National Fire Ecology Program. During FY09, the Central and Southern California Fire Ecology and Fire Effects Monitoring program experimented with a new staff configuration where 12 pay periods of seasonal time were based out of SAMO. This configuration worked well and will be continued in FY10.
