Final Report. The Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow is a federally endangered species endemic to south Florida. The current range of this diminutive bird is almost entirely restricted to areas in Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve. Though seemingly protected from the threat of habitat loss, successful nesting depends upon the occurrence of specific hydrologic conditions. Everglades restoration endeavors to return water flow to a more natural timing and distribution, thereby benefiting such species. This project builds on over a decade of data to quantify the correlation between water depths and sparrow densities. From this work, scientists were able to evaluate the applicability of two alternative models. Dong, Quan and Brian S. Cade. 2006.
