Evaluation of atmospheric nitrogen deposition and effects in the Sierra Nevada subalpine zone
Bytnerowicz A. Evaluation of atmospheric nitrogen deposition and effects in the Sierra Nevada subalpine zone. Research Permit and Reporting System
Concentrations of air pollutants and atmospheric deposition to branches of lodgepole and western white pines were determined at Emerald Lake site, SEKI, in summer 2014. Ambient concentration of NH3, HNO3, NO, and O3 were elevated while those of NO2 and SO2 at background levels. Dry deposition of NO3-, NH4+ and SO42- to pine branches were slightly lower than those determined in 1987 and several time higher than those in eastern Sierra Nevada site. In summer 2015 tree cores will be collected.
