A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). The Teton Interagency Fire Ecology program functions to support Teton Interagency Fire by providing assessments of treatment effectiveness, science-based information and professional knowledge to facilitate adaptive fire management. The primary way that this is accomplished is through project-level monitoring and objective setting. Fire Ecology personnel coordinate extensively with FMOs, AFMOs, Fuels Specialists, and Resource Managers to plan and follow through on results for dozens of projects. The Teton Interagency Fire Effects Crew officially includes five NPS employees, but relies heavily on the contributions of biologists from the Wyoming Game & Fish Department and US Forest Service. Additional field help from the Teton Interagency Fuels Crew, Engine 4, Engine 3, and other Fire Personnel is much appreciated! This report represents the 2009 fire effects monitoring data collection, analysis results, and conclusions. Individual project reports are included in the Appendices. As of this past summer, all compatible fire effects monitoring data has been entered into the FFI database program (some projects still use MS Excel due to the use of non-permanent plots). In the spring of 2010, this year’s data analysis will be presented in a series of coordination meetings with Fire and Resource Management staff from the two National Parks and three USFS Zones. These meetings allow for involved discussions that help identify successes and opportunities to improve future fuels treatments.
