A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). Yellowstone’s Fire Effects Monitors continued on a variety of projects in 2004. No base funded seasonal Fire Effects Monitor positions were provided so that adequate staffing was an issue this year. One Fire Effects Monitor position was created from other sources. Our approach was to cover our tasks from the ground up, providing for Level 1 and 2 tasks (Short term weather and fire behavior monitoring) to allow for fire-use fires before Level 3 and 4 tasks (Long term vegetation and fuels monitoring).
