A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). The Yellowstone Fire Ecology Program collects and manages information required to successfully and safely support fire management operations in Yellowstone National Park. Monitoring staff provide the Fire Management Office with current and predicted weather and fuel conditions. The program also provides data to describe the effects of natural fire, prescribed fire, and mechanical fuel treatments on vegetation, and fuels. Information is provided to fire managers, other Yellowstone staff, and the public to provide a scientific basis for the fire management program. The Yellowstone Fire Ecology program is broadening its scope beyond vegetation, and establishing a rapport with other park disciplines that concentrate on wetland ecology, migratory birds, endemic fish, and soils because these are the primary issues that drive fire management decision‐making and outcomes at Yellowstone.
