Yellowstone Fire Ecology Annual Report: Calendar Year 2010
Page J. 2010. Yellowstone Fire Ecology Annual Report: Calendar Year 2010
A summary of fire ecology activities and program information for the Park/network including fire effects plot workload, staffing, management objectives and monitoring results, and planning, fire monitoring, communications, and research. Also included are staff accomplishments/areas of focus, future program direction and other optional information (e.g. data analysis graphics or presentations, annual highlights, publications, program challenges, unique solutions to problems, collaboration, photographs of monitoring/fire activities, and suggestions on FFI). The Fire Effects crew of 2010 had a rather busy season in what many crews might deem a slow fire year. Most of our time was spent collecting information to support fire management decisions in the Park. This consists mostly of fuels and weather data but we were able to visit several post fire vegetation monitoring plots as well. Due to the lack of prescribed fire at Yellowstone these plots are not necessarily the focus of the program but they do provide baseline information on long term ecosystem changes which may prove valuable in future studies.
