Final Report. Aquatic invertebrate communities typically exhibit pronounced sensitivity to environmental degradation. Consequently, monitoring these populations can be an effective way of tracking environmental change. Studying the diversity and richness of invertebrate species can provide valuable insight into the effects of alterations in hydropattern, water quality, or overall system function. This multi-faceted CESI project established a sampling program for populations of midges in freshwater marshes of Everglades National Park. Subsequent analysis investigated the relative effects of several variables, including canal inflows, nutrient enrichment, and hydroperiod.
