Absolute Gravity Measurements in Yellowstone National Park

Absolute Gravity Measurements in Yellowstone National Park. Research Permit and Reporting System

We are making repeated absolute gravity measurements at four locations colocated with permanent GPS in Yellowstone National Park. Our goal is to understand the source of the large uplift rates that have been observed in the Yellowstone caldera since 2004. Combining gravity change with the GPS, we can know whether the uplift is caused by the intrusion of magma into the underlying crust, or by the release of pressurized water and gas.
