Quickly processing and distributing aerial and satellite imagery is essential to effectively preparing for and responding to natural disasters, such as coastal storm events. The workflows contained within this document walk Esri ArcGIS users through the necessary steps for creating high-quality Esri mosaic datasets. Once complete, these mosaic datasets are easily shared with other GIS analysts, and also may be used as a data source for ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online map services. The first two workflows address Quickbird satellite imagery, and are intended to be used together as they build off one another. The first workflow details the process for creating a mosaic dataset utilizing panchromatic Quickbird imagery, while the second workflow details how to create a pansharpened multispectral mosaic dataset which combines multispectral Quickbird imagery with a mosaic dataset featuring panchromatic Quickbird imagery. The final workflow steps users through the process of creating a mosaic dataset utilizing other raster format imagery data and file types, such as imagery stored as GeoTIFF or JPEG2000 files. These workflows not only provide users with detailed instructions, but also include annotated images for each step along the way. These procedures are intended to assist GIS analysts with expediting image data processing, resulting in more efficient preparation for and response to coastal storm events.
