A review of the historic and current status of Whitebark Pine (Pinus albicaulis) in the Northern Rocky Mountains and projections of future trends of whitebark communities throughout its North American range. The authors examine whitebark pine decline mechanisms including: white pine blister rust, mountain pine beetle and dwarf mistletoe, and fire exclusion. They also look at the temporal scale of decline and regional population trends. They conclude with a look at the future in whitebark pine communities.
