Use of Reefs by Fish and Sharks in Mississippi Coastal Waters
Hendon J and Franks J. Use of Reefs by Fish and Sharks in Mississippi Coastal Waters. Research Permit and Reporting System
Acoustic receiver arrays were deployed at reef sites in the Mississippi Sound. Reef fish and sharks were tagged with transmitters to monitor use and fidelity to these sites. Sharks were highly mobile and did not show true fidelity to any monitored area. Juvenile reef fish were highly resident, specifically to the Petit Bois site, for extended periods of time. These studies show the significance of reef structure in the Sound as fish habitat, including species of recreational/commercial value.
