Develop and test Mojave native plant materials: quarterly progress report
University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Develop and test Mojave native plant materials: quarterly progress report
• We maintained the existing carbon and shade addition project beyond proposed project dates in order to provide a more robust dataset intended for publication in a peer reviewed academic journal. • Maintenance (driwater) of outplanted individuals was continued through December 2012. Driwater tubes were removed and supplemental watering was discontinued after December 2012 to provide a more natural competitive environment for the first full year of data. • On March 26th, 2013, we performed nitrogen extraction analyses to evaluate the effect of three years of nitrogen suppression through carbon addition on soil available N (NH4 and NO3). • Spring survival assessments were conducted during March. Biomass and community composition analyses will be performed during mid-April, 2013, during peak flowering and biomass.
