Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) Dating at Montezuma Castle Cliff Dwelling, AZ O:05:14 (ASM). Research Permit and Reporting System

This study examined construction stages at Montezuma Castle from 36 AMS dates from 9 rooms that spanned the late AD 200s to the late 1300s. No room yielded date clustering. Six overall statistical clusters in the AD 900s through the 1300s mark reused construction materials as well as episodes of construction and renovations. Without supporting information such as ceramics, identification of the initial construction phase is not possible but may be in the AD 1000s.
