Park management plans to replace the existing Old Faithful Inn forced sewer line between the lift station and the existing gravity portion of the sewer line in the Myriad Group. Proposed routes for the sewer line are within an active hydrothermal system as defined by hydrothermally altered ground, hydrothermal deposits, and elevated subsurface temperatures. Fifty subsurface temperatures measured at 85 cm (33.5 in) depth ranged from 10.5 to 72.5 degrees C (50.9 to 162.5 degrees F). Hydrothermal gas concentrations (carbon dioxide) and wet hydrothermal muds at 15 sites also indicate an active hydrothermal system. At this time, potential anthropogenic impacts to the hydrothermal resource and individual features cannot be determined with certainty.
