Tentative aquatic community sites were identified in four of the six primary watersheds selected by the original watershed draw (i.e. Abrams Creek, East Prong Little River, Cataloochee Creek, Hazel Creek). The decision to initiate data collection in four of the six primary watersheds in 2014 in support of the 2014 aquatic community and water quality vital signs monitoring plan was based upon known staffing and volunteer support for 2014. Attempts were made to select the new vital signs sites along a single main stem corridor, within each 305m band (100 foot) and at access points where they could feasibly be collected. In potential sampling areas that included historic sampling sites, retaining old sites with long term data sets were given preference over creating new vital sign sites with no data. GRSM and UT staff as well as volunteers surveyed potential survey sites and selected sites that met the aforementioned criteria and were perennial streams.
