Obtaining and using genetics should be a part of broad-based conservation strategies for fish management in the parks. Even though this study is focuses on NPS land, the results will provide a range-wide perspective of brook trout genetic resources. This study will describe the amount and geographic distribution of genetic variation and what remains of native genetic diversity in Great Smokey Mountains National Park (GRSM). These data will augment monitoring programs or establish baselines for genetic conservation to provide for long-term, evolutionary adaptability of populations.
