Nuestra Senora Reina de la Paz, also known simply as La Paz, was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a private district in 2011. At the time of the nomination, 24 contributing resources and 4 non-contributing resources were identified at the property. La Paz is recognized as a nationally-significant property under National Register Criteria A (associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of history) and B (associated with the lives of persons significant in our past). The period of significance is identified as 1970-1984, significant in areas of Industry, Social History, Ethnic Heritage: Hispanic, and Politics/Government. Nuestra Senora Reina de la Paz is a 187-acre property located in the Tehachapi Mountains of California. The period of significance represents a phase in the productive life of Cesar Chavez and in the larger history of the farm worker movement. During this time, the farm worker movement began to transition into a modern labor union, the United Farm Workers of America (UFW). La Paz is the property most closely associated with this development. This is primarily because Chavez relocated the UFW's administrative offices and his own residence to the site in 1971, and also because thousands of union members came here to help devise and implement organizing strategies, to receive training, and to strengthen their solidarity. The property, now part of César E. Chávez National Monument, was designated as a National Historic Landmark in October of 2012.
