2015. Great Smoky Mountains National Park Initial Tardigrade and Meiofauna Inventory
As of December 2010, over 14,000 specimens of tardigrades (waterbears) have been databased from the park, representing 82 species, probably 21 of which are new to science and 58 new to the park. They estimate 95 species should be in the park. Seven new species have been described, including (Doryphoribius smokiensis n sp.).
