2015. Survey of Diptera of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
During the years 1999-2008, the researchers documented the host association(s) of the majority of the tephritid flies (picture wing flies) of the GSMNP and at least partial phenologies (seasonal occurrence of the various life stages) are known for all species documented to date. Several possible new species of tephritid have been collected and are being analyzed with DNA sequence comparison. Order-level sorting of insects from ca. 1000 Malaise trap samples, particularly those from the 2003-2004 intensive survey of Cades Cove and Purchase Knob, has been generally completed.
