Mosquito Species Inventory and Seasonal occurrence and habitat utilization of exotic, invasive mosquitoes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

2015. Mosquito Species Inventory and Seasonal occurrence and habitat utilization of exotic, invasive mosquitoes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

PI is conducting an inventory of mosquitoes in the park for the ATBI. Larvae and eggs were collected, as well as adults, and reared in the lab to identify species. Ochlerotatus japonicus, was collected from 10 sites on both sides of the park. This is a new park record of an exotic, invasive mosquito. This species was not collected by Reeves et al during their 1999 - 2003 field study (GRSM-00008), but likely would have been if present.
