The National Park Service Arctic Network Inventory and Monitoring Program has proposed installing thirteen small climate monitoring stations in remote areas the four Western Arctic National Parklands units. These automated stations would provide baseline weather information and supporting climate trend analysis, supporting the Arctic Network monitoring program. Eight of the locations were examined in June 2010 for National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 compliance. One was determined to have adequate survey information available for evaluation. The Bering Land Bridge National Monument locations have not yet been surveyed for cultural resources. The June 2010 archeological survey of proposed installation locations in CAKR, KOVA and NOAT carries out cultural resource recommendations identified in the Climate Monitoring Program in the Arctic Alaska Network (ARCN) National Park Service Units, Environmental Assessment, June 2010. The field crew consisted of Eileen Devinney (NPS WEAR Cultural Resource Manager), Pam Sousanes (NPS ARCN Physical Scientist), and Jon Chabala (Temsco pilot).
