ABSTRACT: The life history, behavior, and ecology of Percina aurantiaca (Cope) were studied in the Little, Little Pigeon, Emory-Obed, Hiwassee, Clinch, Powell, and Holston Rivers of the Tennessee River system. Diving equipment was utilized in making "natural habitat" observations on macrohabitat, microhabitat, longitudinal distribution, seasonal and diurnal activity, feeding behavior, migration, territoriality, associated species, competition, and population density and structure. Mating behavior and diurnal activity were studied in an experimental raceway. Feeding behavior and territoriality were studied in a 55-gallon (208.2 l) aquarium. Parasites, longevity, age and growth, ova numbers and maturation, the sex ratio, and food habits were determined in the laboratory.
