The National Park Service (NPS) has an obligation to maintain a thorough, accurate record of its policies, decisions, and activities. We cannot formulate current policies properly without reference to the past. The goal of an administrative history is to document the origin and evolution of an NPS unit. To date, administrative histories applied to parks and not to program units. The NPS Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Program has functional units, called networks. Each network oversees inventory and monitoring for the I&M Program at one or more parks.
