The Nelden-Hornbeck Farm (formerly known as the Roberts Farm) is located about two miles east of the river in Sussex County, New Jersey. It consists of 115 acres on the southwest side of Route 206. This landscape is representative of nineteenth and twentieth century farming in the Delaware River Valley, and exhibits many of the agricultural qualities associated with farms in the area. It is open with rolling pasture land and fields divided by hedgerows and fences. The house is set back several hundred feet from the road. The entrance drive, which drops in elevation to the house, is lined with a mature allee of sugar maple and black locust trees. Historically there was a large dairy complex of barns and sheds located south of the house. The farm was acquired in 1978 by the Federal government as part of the Tocks Island Dam project.
