This report describes the Air Quality Related Values (AQRVs) of the Northern Colorado Plateau Network (NCPN). AQRVs are those resources sensitive to air quality. They include streams, lakes, soils, vegetation, fish and wildlife, and visibility. The NCPN parks that are included in the NPS Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Program, and discussed in this report, are Arches National Park (ARCH), Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (BLCA), Bryce Canyon National Park (BRCA), Canyonlands National Park (CANY), Capitol Reef National Park (CARE), Cedar Breaks National Monument (CEBR), Colorado National Monument (COLM), Curecanti National Recreation Area (CURE), Dinosaur National Monument (DINO), Fossil Butte National Monument (FOBU), Golden Spike National Historic Site (GOSP), Hovenweep National Monument (HOVE), Natural Bridges National Monument (NABR), Pipe Spring National Monument (PISP), Timpanogos Cave National Monument (TICA), and Zion National Park (ZION). ARCH, BLCA, BRCA, CANY, CARE, and ZION are designated as Class I parks, giving them a heightened level of protection against harm caused by poor air quality under the Clean Air Act (CAA). Sullivan et al. (2011a, 2011b) and Kohut (2007a) conducted risk assessments for acidification, eutrophication, and O3 for all of the NCPN parks; their results are described in this report. This report also describes air pollutant emissions and air quality, and their effects on AQRVs in SCPN parks. The primary pollutants likely to affect AQRVs include nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) compounds (nitrate [NO3-], ammonium [NH4+], and sulfate [SO42-]); ground-level O3; haze-causing particles; and airborne toxics.
