Groundwater Age Dating in and Near Arches National Park, Utah

The objectives of this study were to determine the age and origin of recharge for waters issuing from four springs in Courthouse Wash and Sevenmile Canyon in Arches National Park, and waters from four wells screened within the Moab Member of the Curtis Formation, Slickrock Member of the Entrada Sandstone, or the Navajo Sandstone aquifers adjacent to Courthouse Wash and Sevenmile Canyon. Noble gas thermometry and stable isotopes were used to estimate the recharge elevation for these waters, and the environmental tracers tritium and chlorofluorocarbons were used to determine the age of waters within these aquifers.
