This work, which is essentially the publication of the author's dissertation, looks at the status of the genus Austroboletus, Tylopilus, and Porphyrellus (Boletaceae), the latter being put as a subgenus to Tylopilus. The work includes material from Great Smoky Mountains National Park and a description of type material of Tylopilus pacificus Wolfe from mount Rainier National Park.
