From the background: "Climate change alters phenology, the timing of biological events, differently for each species in an ecosystem. As a result, mismatches may form between when a species is most in demand of a resource and the availability of that resource. However, it is not known whether mismatches are occurring between fall migratory birds and their main food resources: fruit and insects. It is well known that many plants have been flowering and fruiting earlier in the season. (Cleland et al. 2007) If this trend continues and fall migratory birds are unable to adjust their diets based on available resources, loss of biodiversity is possible."
