The goals of the Nuluk Project are to evaluate why and how people adapted to and altered their environment during past episodes of arctic environmental variability, and to understand how modern climate change is impacting archaeological sites in coastal areas of the Nuluk study unit of Bering Land Bridge National Preserve (BELA) (Figure 1). In addition, this project sought to establish the methodological foundation for a future coastal archaeological site vulnerability study; these methods are detailed in a separate Inventory and Monitoring Plan (Anderson 2013). The catalyst for the Nuluk project is the prediction that on‐going coastal erosion in the region will only increase as sea‐levels rise and the region warms with global climate change (Jezierski, et al. 2010). The purpose of this final technical report is to describe project activities and findings, to provide National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility evaluations for sites identified in the project area, and to make recommendations for the future management of archaeological sites in the study area. Potential for future research is also considered.
